Former President Abdul Kalam’s birthday today

Leading scientist, former President late APJ Abdul Kalam Jayanti today. Abdul Kalam was also one of the great scientists who put India at the forefront in the fields of nuclear science and space.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu. Known as a genius since childhood, he studied physics and aerospace engineering. For four decades, he worked for the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and made many innovations. Played a key role in the manufacture of ballistic missiles and their launch vehicles.

That is why he got the name ‘Missile Man’. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam also played a key role in conducting nuclear tests at Pokhran in Rajasthan in 1998 during the reign of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister.

He has been honored with awards by many universities abroad. The Central Government also honored him with the Padma Bhushan in 1981, the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and the prestigious Bharat Ratna in 1997. 

He would have to write a big book to write about the awards he received. He has also written many wonderful books. Among them Wings of Fire, Ignited Minds, Mission India, Target 3 Billion are also recognized as great writers.

Desiring to pay more homage to his patriotic and talents, Anand (in 2002) was nominated for the presidency by the ruling BJP-led NDA government, which unanimously elected him president with the support of all parties, including the main opposition Congress party.

Even after assuming office as President, he guided the Central Government in the fields of science and technology. Although he played a key role in hostile missiles and nuclear tests, his favorite was to make inspiring speeches among youth, especially students.

 On July 27, 2015, while addressing the students of the Indian Institute of Shillong, he suddenly collapsed on stage.

 He died of a heart attack in the presence of his dearest students. The Central Government conducted the funeral with all formalities at Paikarumbu in Rameshwaram, his birthplace. Later, DRDVO built the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam National Memorial Center at Paikarumbu in Rameshwaram in his memory. 

It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2017.
